Manhattan Bar + Eatery occupies a waterfront address on The Strand, combining the energy of a central Tauranga bar with a menu substantial enough for lunch or dinner. Its long trading week and reservable tables make the venue easy to approach without reducing it to a drinks-only stop.

Sharing plates carry much of the menu’s contemporary pub character. Lemon pepper calamari arrives with wasabi mayonnaise, pork belly bites are coated in chilli caramel and sesame, and garlic prawns add bacon to the pan. Crispy chicken, mozzarella sticks and loaded wedges keep the selection familiar, but the sauces and accompaniments give a group several different flavours to pass around before choosing a main.

The larger plates stay close to comfort food.
