Poroti Tavern is a country pub built around a genuinely substantial food offer. Lunch and dinner at the Mangakahia Road venue can begin with familiar tavern snacks such as garlic bread, wings and loaded wedges, but the menu quickly widens to mussels, fish croquettes, octopus and shrimp. That range makes it as useful for a casual drink and a plate as for a full sit-down meal.
The burger section leans into generous pub combinations, including beef with bacon, egg and onion rings, buttermilk fried chicken, pulled pork with apple, and battered snapper with squid. Signature plates become more composed: pork ribs arrive with salad and corn ribs, maple-lacquered salmon is paired with forbidden rice and mango salsa, and coffee-crusted pork belly comes with duchess potatoes, greens and pumpkin puree.
Main courses keep seafood and slow-cooked meats in view. Diners can choose the catch of the day, a classic steak, prawns with a lemongrass and coconut risotto cake, lamb shank or beef cheek, alongside chicken roulade and pesto chicken fettuccine. A separate pizza list and an Indian-inspired curry section, where curries are served with rice and naan, give larger groups plenty of different directions.
