Aryeh reopened in August 2026 as a Piha culinary home grounded in the landscape around it. Its name is the Aramaic word for lion, a reference to nearby Lion Rock, while the restaurant looks across a green west-coast setting from its dining room, covered balcony and weather-dependent Sundeck. The kitchen works hyper-seasonally with New Zealand growers, fishers, farmers and hunters, letting available produce and the rhythms of the coast shape each service.
Booked restaurant tables choose how deeply to explore the kitchen rather than ordering a conventional list of separate mains. Two- and three-course Trust the Chef menus include pre-dinner snacks, an entrée, a main and sides, with pudding added to the longer version. A five-course Signature menu expands the progression to two entrées and two puddings. This format gives the chefs room to change dishes daily while maintaining a clear structure for diners.
Walk-ins can use the Sundeck menu when the weather allows. Its spring selection includes slow-cooked crown pumpkin soup with buckwheat and Piha herb oil, and line-caught Leigh fish ceviche with kohlrabi and coastal greens. Aged grass-fed beef and roasted Tāmaki eggplant provide contrasting mains, while fish and chips suits visitors arriving straight from the beach. Roasted carrots with mānuka honey and potatoes with kawakawa emulsion keep even the sides closely tied to place.
Dessert may be an improvised daily creation, a citrus and chocolate composition, or a selection of house-made ice creams and sorbets. Wine, beer, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks support both restaurant meals and private functions. Children can choose simple fish, steak or pasta dishes, and more adventurous younger diners can join a set menu. Dietary needs can be considered with advance notice, an important detail for a kitchen whose menu is curated rather than fixed.
