BRAAiHUT brings the social, flame-led idea of a South African braai to Vine Street. Beef and chicken are grilled rather than treated as interchangeable fast-food fillings, and peri-peri basting provides the menu's recurring source of heat. The public Whangārei venue supports dining and takeaway, while its direct ordering system makes the same menu available for a quick pickup. The result is a fast-casual format with a specific grilling identity rather than a generic burger counter.
Burgers, pitas and wraps form the largest part of the range. A straightforward beef or chicken option can be kept simple with salad and aioli, while larger builds bring in bacon, cheese, beetroot, caramelised onion, pineapple, avocado or peri-peri chutney. The double beef Tsimba and double chicken Ostrich Works sit at the more substantial end; sourdough-bun versions add Swiss cheese or cheddar and avocado. Each can be expanded into a combo with a side and drink.
The menu's South African character is clearest in the boerewors roll, where flame-grilled sausage meets caramelised onion and peri-peri chutney. Meatballs can also be basted to a chosen level, and the chicken section moves from quarter and half birds to wings, tenders and sosaties threaded with onion and capsicum. Whole-chicken combinations and mixed platters add sides and smaller grilled pieces for families or groups. One family feast combines a whole chicken with wings and two large sides.
Vegetarian patties are available in burgers and pitas, including a more elaborate version with Swiss cheese, caramelised onion and peri-peri chutney. Garden and Mediterranean salads can be ordered alone or with grilled chicken or meatballs, while chips, spicy rice, coleslaw and sweet corn cover the classic side options. Chocolate mousse, berry cheesecake and slice-style desserts provide a simple cool finish after the chilli and char.
