Lone Star Invercargill has occupied its Art Deco corner building at Dee and Leet Streets since the franchise opened in 1994. That long local presence gives the branch more character than a generic dining room: it is both a familiar evening restaurant and a venue equipped for substantial gatherings. Dinner is served seven nights, and the whole restaurant can accommodate large functions. For smaller private occasions, the Southland Room seats up to 60. The setting therefore works on several scales, from a family table to an organised celebration that needs its own room and a clear sense of place.

A meal can begin with the table passing around warm garlic bread or corn chips with bean dip, then adding more strongly seasoned plates as appetites build. Calamari and prawns bring seafood into that first round, while nachos can act as either a substantial starter or a casual centrepiece over drinks. Chicken provides another shareable direction. These choices suit the branch's evening focus because they allow a group to arrive at different times and still start together, without committing immediately to individual mains. They also set up the menu's familiar contrast between bold sauces, crisp textures and comforting accompaniments.

The main course selection is led by pork ribs in several house styles, each using its own seasoning or sauce to shift the balance between smoky, sweet and spicy flavours. Chicken dishes continue that bold approach, while steaks offer a more classic grill-based meal with sauces and sides. Fish and a prawn-focused plate give seafood its own place rather than leaving it among the starters, and a composed salad creates a lighter alternative. This spread is useful for a function table in particular: diners can order to very different appetites while remaining within the restaurant's straightforward, generous style.

The private-room and family appeal carries through the later parts of the menu. Children can choose from a dedicated selection, and dietary markers give guests a practical starting point when navigating the wider list. For dessert, pavlova offers a recognisably New Zealand finish, cheesecake keeps things classic, and a warm Milkybar pudding leans into the restaurant's playful side. In the Invercargill setting, those dishes can close either an ordinary dinner or a much larger occasion. The branch's strongest asset is that flexibility: a historic city-corner venue, a broad comfort-food menu and spaces capable of keeping celebrations together under one roof.
