Robert Harris Hornby is a full-service cafe inside The Hub Hornby, serving the local shopping centre from early morning into the afternoon and, on Thursdays, into the evening. Susan and Jared have owned the branch since 2017, shaping it around familiar service and ongoing relationships with customers and staff. That community focus gives the cafe a more personal identity than its national name alone might suggest, whether the visit is for breakfast, lunch or coffee to take away.
Breakfast moves from simple eggs on sourdough to composed brunch dishes. The branch identifies its hotcakes, served with bacon, grilled banana, mascarpone and maple syrup, as its most popular plate. Eggs Benedict comes with a choice of bacon, smoked salmon or mushrooms, while smashed avocado is layered with beetroot hummus, ricotta, balsamic tomatoes and dukkah. A breakfast bowl of roasted cauliflower, kale, quinoa, avocado and poached egg offers a savoury alternative to French toast and the larger cooked breakfast.
At lunch, the menu broadens into burgers, toasted sandwiches, salads and substantial cafe plates. The creamy mushroom dish, singled out by the Hornby team as a must-try, pairs roasted mushrooms and spinach with blue-cheese sauce, toasted pita, a poached egg and dukkah. Other directions include a beef burger with bacon and onion jam, a pork belly baguette with pickled carrot and maple chilli glaze, smoked chicken salad, savoury French toast and quinoa with potato hash.
Coffee remains central, with espresso drinks ranging from flat whites and long blacks to mochas and macchiatos. Tea, iced coffee, frappes and fruit smoothies create plenty of alternatives, and the active pickup service suits shoppers or workers who cannot linger. Together with the broad breakfast and lunch selection, those drinks make the Hornby cafe useful for everything from an early catch-up to a quick midday meal or a sweet pause during a trip through the centre.
