Krungthep Thai Street Food brings a Bangkok-inspired restaurant format to Addington's Lincoln Road. The wider business began in New Zealand around 2014 and 2015, drawing its name and original idea from Krung Thep, the Thai name for Bangkok, where street vendors make everyday eating exceptionally varied. The Addington branch carries that casual spirit into a full restaurant menu, with dine-in, takeaway and delivery all available. It suits a quick noodle order, but the breadth of the food also rewards a table willing to share several courses.
The opening sections move through crisp, grilled, fresh and soupy textures. Chicken satay and curry puffs are familiar starting points, while chicken gyoza, fish cakes and spring rolls make it easy to assemble a mixed plate. Larb gai and nam tok beef bring herbs, seasoning and the sharper profile of Thai salads. Tom yum provides heat and acidity, whereas tom kha adds coconut richness; wonton soup offers a gentler alternative. Ordering across these groups creates a lively first round before rice, noodles or curry arrive.
Rice and noodles cover many of the combinations associated with an informal Thai meal. Fried rice appears in traditional, pineapple, tom yum and green-curry versions, changing the base from mild and savoury to sweet, aromatic or spicy. Pad Thai sits beside drunken noodles, pad see ew and golden noodles, while roasted pork with noodles and cashew brings a meatier house direction. These dishes can stand alone, but they also work well in the middle of a shared table, absorbing sauces and balancing more intense salads or curries.
The curry and stir-fry sections give diners the widest control over the meal. Red, green, yellow, panang and massaman curries are joined by basil, ginger, cashew, peanut, garlic-and-pepper and curry-paste stir-fries. Choices such as chicken, beef, pork, tofu, prawns and pork belly let the same sauce take on very different weight and texture. That modular structure is one of Krungthep's practical strengths: a group can explore contrasting Thai flavour families while adjusting proteins, keeping the table varied without turning the order into a collection of unrelated dishes.
