The Boardwalk is an Ahuriri beach bar and bistro whose outlook across Perfume Point is woven into the experience. The Hardinge Road venue opens seven days and spreads service across the restaurant, bar, an enclosed wooden deck and outdoor patios. That variety lets diners choose between a sheltered meal and a table closer to the water when conditions cooperate. It works as a neighbourhood local as much as a scenic stop, with enough space and menu range to support coffee, a casual drink, a full dinner or a gathering.

The opening food encourages a table to share. Garlic bread and a pull-apart loaf provide simple ways to begin, while creamy seafood chowder and prawn cocktail establish the coastal emphasis. Individual share bowls move through battered fish, Korean fried chicken, sticky pork belly, squid, prawns, jerk-spiced wings and macaroni-cheese croquettes. Ordering several brings crisp coatings, rich meat, seafood and sharper sauces into the same round. It is a useful format beside the bar, but substantial enough to become the first stage of a longer bistro meal.

The all-day menu keeps seafood prominent without making it the only reason to visit. Fish burgers, mussels, fish and chips, seafood lasagne, paella, catch of the day and a large platter cover several cooking styles, from battered to pan-seared and baked. Beef, chicken and pork appear in burgers, salads and mains, while a long-braised beef cheek offers a slower, deeper option. Sirloin, Scotch fillet and surf and turf complete the steak side, allowing one table to mix casual sandwiches with full restaurant plates.

Beer, Hawke's Bay wine, coffee and a wider beverage list support visits at different times of day. Reservations are recommended, though a waiting area lets walk-in guests take in the seaside view when tables are full. Large groups can use set menus from twenty people, and functions can extend to forty, giving the venue a practical occasion role beyond everyday dining. The Boardwalk's strength lies in this combination of flexibility and place: broad bistro food, a complete bar and several ways to sit beside the Ahuriri waterfront.
