Crafty Trout Brewery pairs an on-site drinks operation with a quirky hunting and fishing lodge style eatery in Taupō. The gastropub setting makes house beer, cider and liqueurs part of the experience, but food is more than a token accompaniment. Pizzas, burgers, salads, sharing plates and smaller snacks give the kitchen enough range for lunch, dinner or a grazing session built around drinks.
The smaller dishes lean into food that sits naturally beside a pint. Pretzels and nachos are designed for casual sharing, while garlic pizza and a five cheese pizza keep the focus on crisp bases and direct flavours. Diners wanting a fuller plate can move toward an Angus beef burger or pasta, and salads bring a fresher counterpoint to the fried, baked and cheese driven parts of the menu.
Loaded beef schnitzels are one of the venue's defining specialities. They arrive with chips, salad and sauerkraut, then take on a range of toppings that turns the same base into several distinct meals.
