Buddha Stix Dunedin brings Thai and Vietnamese flavours to a central George Street dining room with enough space for both casual dinners and larger celebrations. The kitchen builds its menu around contrast: aromatic curries and fresh herb-led salads sit beside sizzling woks, crisp fried starters and slow-cooked dishes. Everything is available for takeaway as well as dine-in, while group bookings can extend to substantial parties.

Small plates cover a useful range of textures before the mains. Money bags combine minced chicken with lemongrass and coriander, fresh rice-paper rolls wrap prawn, pork and herbs, and pork dumplings come with panang curry sauce and kaffir lime. Crunchy pork belly, garlic prawn hot pot and roti with peanut sauce offer richer alternatives. The curry section then moves from green chicken curry to beef-cheek panang, lamb-shank massaman and a king-prawn laksa.

Slow-cooked and wok dishes give the menu its boldest flavours. Kung pao chicken layers Sichuan peppercorn, chilli, peanut, garlic and ginger, while pork is cooked with five spice, Shaoxing wine and dark soy. A black-pepper hot plate pairs beef with potatoes and peppers; other choices include lemongrass chicken, sweet-and-sour pork belly and king prawns with fresh chilli, peppercorn and curry leaf.

Vegetarian choices are worked into the same flavour vocabulary rather than separated from it. Vegan duck-style tofu comes in red curry, Monk’s Offering combines vegetables and tofu on a hot plate, and tofu satay uses the house peanut sauce. Desserts such as hot-plate brownie, sticky rice with roasted coconut and Asian-coffee affogato round out dinner, while set feasts make it easy for groups to share starters, curries, noodles, salads and sweets across the table.
