Rosie O’Grady’s Hastings brings the ease of an Irish local to Karamu Road North, with a distinctly Hawke’s Bay chapter behind it. Owners Stef and Lara revived the name in Hastings in August 2021 after years spent working in pubs, shaping the venue around Irish hospitality with a Kiwi inflection. The result is an informal place where the food, the bar and a long afternoon at the table all belong to the same experience.

The menu has the substance expected of a proper pub meal. Irish stew, Guinness beef cheeks and Belfast burgers bring recognisably Irish ideas to the table, while schnitzel, fish and chips, steak and chicken parmigiana broaden the comfort food choice. Pizza, salads and seafood give groups room to mix lighter plates with more filling mains rather than ordering from a narrow bar snack list.

Rosie’s also shows a playful side when Hastings gathers around food. Its 2026 Meatball Festival dishes recast familiar pub favourites as crumbed beef schnitty balls with mushroom sauce, Guinness and caramelised onion beef meatballs with house gravy, and lamb meatballs inspired by shepherd’s pie, complete with mash. The festival entry also highlighted ingredients from local Hawke’s Bay suppliers, grounding the Irish pub theme in its own region.

Service runs from lunch until late throughout the week, making the Hastings branch equally practical for a daytime meal, an early dinner or a longer evening. Separate food and drinks menus preserve the pub rhythm, while table bookings offer some certainty for groups. It is the kind of venue where a single main works, but the broad menu and relaxed hospitality make settling in with friends the more natural approach.
