Afghan Darbar Restaurant & Takeaway is a family-run George Street venue shaped by a mother-and-son story and recipes that connect Afghanistan with neighbouring Persian and South Asian traditions. The decorated dining room gives those dishes a sit-down setting, while reservations, takeaway, pickup and delivery keep the operation flexible. It can therefore serve both a shared family dinner and a quick individual order without changing its culinary focus.
Vegetable-led starters provide a useful introduction to the kitchen. Bolani folds potato, spinach and spices into pan-fried bread and pairs it with chutney, while hummus comes with Afghan garlic bread. Falafel can be ordered as a roll, over salad or in an Iskander-style plate, giving meat-free diners several formats rather than one token appetiser.
Skewers and slow-cooked meat carry much of the main menu. Chicken, lamb and minced-lamb kebabs arrive with rice or chips and salad, while Kabuli pulao supplies a more distinctly Afghan centrepiece. Lamb dumpukht is cooked slowly with onion and spices, sabzi combines chicken or lamb with herbs, spinach and beans, and karahi dishes build their sauce around tomato, onion and warm spice.
Afghan dumplings and large family platters extend the communal side of the menu, while doner rolls and Iskander plates provide familiar, portable alternatives. A glass of tangy yoghurt-based doogh is a natural counterpoint to grilled meat and spice. Baklava and other desserts then give the meal a sweet finish, rounding out a menu that moves comfortably between traditional dishes and contemporary takeaway favourites.
