Waterfront Bar & Grill occupies the long-standing Grove Road pub once known as the Royal Hotel, now refurbished under its river-focused name. The public restaurant opens into a beer garden overlooking the Taylor River, giving a casual meal an outdoor setting close to central Blenheim. Its identity remains that of a neighbourhood bar and grill, with food available across the week and a fuller evening selection later in the week.
The daytime and bar-food list favours uncomplicated dishes designed for a drink, a quick bite or a shared table. Garlic bread and bowls of fries lead into chicken tenders, fish bites, sausage bites and onion rings, several served with fries and sauces. The seafood basket gathers fish bites, squid rings and prawn twisters on one plate, while gravy or curry sauce can turn a bowl of chips into something more substantial.
From Thursday through Saturday evenings, the menu shifts toward complete grill-style mains. Steak, golden beer-battered fish, crumbed chicken and sausages each come with salad, while burgers offer bacon and egg, chicken, fish or beef fillings with cheese, beetroot relish, pickles and vegetables. Every meal and snack can also be ordered for takeaway, so the kitchen serves people beyond the tables and river-facing garden.
The finishing choices keep the tone deliberately nostalgic: ice-cream floats come in familiar soft-drink flavours, and sundaes are topped with whipped cream, nuts, chocolate flake, wafer and a cherry. Beer and cider appear on tap and in bottles, alongside Marlborough and wider New Zealand wines and alcohol-free drinks. A separate function area with its own bar and amenities can host up to 100 people, with the kitchen catering from the standard menu or a special arrangement.
