Bagel Love has made its New York-style bagels in central Auckland since 2008, with the Wellesley Street shop sitting directly in front of its working bagelry. That craft is visible in the finished product: dough is mixed and shaped, left to prove slowly overnight, then poached for a chewy exterior before being baked fresh. The on-site production gives the compact city store a clear identity beyond being another counter assembling breakfast sandwiches.
The filled bagels move between familiar deli combinations and house creations. Brooklyn #1 layers smoked salmon with cream cheese, capers, red onion, dill and lemon, while Brooklyn #2 changes the spread to a house-made wasabi cream cheese and adds avocado. The San Fran takes a different route with free-range ham, Swiss cheese, Dijon aioli and garlic-dill pickles. Each filling is detailed enough to give the bagel a distinct balance rather than using the bread as a neutral carrier.
Breakfast and plant-based choices have their own space on the menu. The B&E keeps the morning formula direct with free-range bacon, egg, tomato relish and aioli. Morning After combines bacon with avocado, tomato and cos lettuce, while the vegan ATB relies on avocado, tomato and fresh basil. A toasted bagel with cream cheese and the simpler cream-cheese, tomato and basil combination suit diners who want fewer ingredients without giving up the freshly baked base.
Kōkako organic specialty coffee makes the store as useful for a morning stop as it is for lunch, with cold drinks offering an alternative. Bagel Love also prepares custom catering and supplies its locally made bagels beyond the flagship shop, but Wellesley Street remains the place where customers can see the production setting for themselves. Pickup and delivery add convenience, while the filled-bagel range rewards a visit with more choice than a pre-packed bakery purchase.
