The Orangery is Plymouth International's named restaurant. Although it is based inside the hotel, breakfast and dinner tables are available to travellers staying there and to local diners. Evening service is reservation-led, and its signature happens beside the diner: the maître d' and restaurant team prepare selected flambé dishes over a live flame at the table. That element gives dinner a defined centre of gravity, but the à la carte menu supports a conventional progression through small plates, mains and dessert without choosing a flambé course.
Small plates range deliberately across seafood, vegetables and richer savoury flavours. Smoked kahawai croquettes arrive with herb crème fraîche, while salmon zuke uses sake, ginger and togarashi. Roast pear is paired with Kikorangi blue cheese, walnut and honeyed rocket pesto; vegetable fritters come with basil tzatziki and beetroot. Soup and oysters add further alternatives. The variety allows a table to move between smoked, cured, crisp and fresh elements before the larger dishes begin.
The main courses place New Zealand meat and seafood at the core of the menu. Ribeye can be matched with grilled banana prawns and a garlic-brandy cream, while duck, beef tenderloin, venison and lamb each receive their own fruit, herb or jus accompaniments. Salmon, market fish and stuffed chicken cover lighter and poultry choices, and a vegetarian burrito bowl provides a composed meat-free main. Potato and seasonal vegetables accompany the large plates, keeping the format closer to a full dinner than a collection of isolated centrepieces.
Tableside Steak Diane and brandy-flamed prawns are the clearest expression of The Orangery's live-flame tradition. Dessert continues it through crêpes Suzette finished with Grand Marnier, while crème brûlée, tiramisu, lava cake and a chocolate and peanut-butter bar offer quieter conclusions. Coffee and liqueur coffee provide a final course for diners who want to extend the evening. The combination of public hotel dining, formal reservations and table theatre makes the restaurant especially suited to occasions built around an unhurried meal.
