Churchill's Lounge Bar & Restaurant is The County Hotel's signature evening dining room. Reservations and table service give dinner a planned, sit-down rhythm, while private-dining options make the restaurant useful for occasions that need more separation. Its location inside the Browning Street hotel connects food, lounge and bar service without losing Churchill's identity as a named restaurant in its own right.
The summer starters balance richness with fresh and acidic accompaniments. Pork belly comes with green-apple slaw, scallops are paired with cauliflower purée, and charred peaches meet prosciutto. Salt-and-pepper squid, duck-liver parfait and ceviche extend the opening choices across fried seafood, pâté and a lighter raw preparation, allowing a table to begin with sharply different flavours and textures.
Main courses move between classic and contemporary plates. Beef Wellington supplies the traditional centrepiece, while fish of the day is accompanied by shellfish cannoli. Chicken ballotine shows a more composed style of poultry cookery, and goat-cheese salad offers a meat-free direction. Fish and chips remains available for a familiar alternative, with vegetable sides ready to round out the larger dishes.
Dessert might be strawberry tiramisu, milk-chocolate crémeux or coconut tapioca pudding, with affogato combining coffee and something sweet in a simpler finish. The drinks list is correspondingly broad, spanning cocktails, whisky, beer, Champagne and Hawke's Bay wines, plus alcohol-free drinks, tea and coffee. That depth allows Churchill's to serve a complete multi-course dinner as comfortably as a more focused meal followed by a carefully chosen drink.
