Caution Dining Lounge is the more intimate dining space within Shed 2 on Napier's West Quay, looking across the working Ahuriri waterfront. It has its own identity and booking path while remaining connected to the larger restaurant, so guests can choose a seasonal lounge experience without losing access to Shed 2's casual menu. The waterside location and adaptable room also make it a natural setting for celebrations, private dinners and larger functions.

The food is framed by seasonality and Hawke's Bay produce, drawing from the region's gardens and coastline rather than committing the room to one rigid cuisine. That approach shows in dishes such as New Zealand green-lip mussels with coconut, kaffir lime and ginger, and market-led seafood preparations that can change with supply. Set and tasting menus allow the kitchen to organise those ingredients into a more structured meal when the occasion calls for it.

Current small plates bring confident Asian flavours into the waterfront setting. Pork belly is paired with sticky ginger and gochujang, Korean fried chicken offers crispness and spice, and a Thai beef salad brings herbs and freshness. Fried rice, chicken with cashews and mussels in a tom yum coconut broth give diners several ways to share, moving between sweet heat, aromatic citrus and richer roasted flavours.

Caution can also draw on Shed 2's relaxed favourites, including Italian-style wood-fired pizza, fish and chips and other casual dishes. Function menus extend that flexibility through canapés such as fish ceviche, mushroom bruschetta, miniature pizzas and seared lamb or beef. Whether booked for a composed dinner or used as a private waterfront room, the lounge combines a sense of occasion with food that remains approachable and generous.
