Margo’s brings a playful, globally influenced take on Mexican food to Queenstown Mall. The evening-only rhythm, colourful setting and emphasis on sharing make it feel designed for a social dinner rather than a quiet sequence of individual courses. That does not mean the food lacks structure. The menu moves from snacks and tacos into larger plates, with enough range for a quick round of bites or a full celebration. Its strongest idea is flexibility: diners can improvise dish by dish or let a group selection organise the table.
The opening section builds flavour quickly. Salsas, guacamole and molten queso fundido cover classic dipping territory, while tuna ceviche and coconut tempura prawns introduce acidity and crunch. Corn ribs and cola barbecue pork ribs add two very different ways to get sticky fingers. Tacos continue that variety through Baja fish, Royalburn lamb, pork, fried chicken and cactus. A mixed order can therefore move between seafood, slow-cooked meat, crisp coatings and vegetables without losing the convivial, pass-it-around spirit of the meal.
Larger dishes are made to keep that momentum going. Fat rice and nachos suit the centre of the table, while flautas, brisket quesabirria and carne asada fajitas bring more substantial layers of tortilla, filling and grilled meat. The separate vegan menu is unusually complete rather than a short list of substitutions. Cashew queso, cactus tacos, crispy cauliflower, vegan nachos and tofu verde fajitas give plant-based diners a parallel experience with its own textures and sauces, making mixed groups much easier to feed well.
Churros with hot chocolate provide the warm, indulgent finish, while mango sorbet offers something lighter. Margaritas lead naturally into tequila and mezcal, keeping the bar closely connected to the restaurant's food identity. For groups, the El Jefe selection removes the need to negotiate every order and turns the meal into a paced spread of house choices. Whether diners follow that route or assemble their own sequence, Margo’s works best when the table shares freely, tries contrasting flavours and treats dinner as part of the night's entertainment.
