Hillary House Restaurant takes a broad neighbourhood approach to dining in Papanui, combining share plates, familiar New Zealand mains, curries, pasta, burgers and children’s choices on one menu. The range is deliberately wide, which makes the restaurant practical for families and groups whose preferences do not fit a single cuisine. Dine-in service is supported by pickup and delivery, so the same mix can suit a table at the restaurant or a varied order for home.

The sharing section draws flavours from several directions. Bao buns can be filled with cauliflower, pulled pork or chicken, while barbecue popcorn cauliflower gives vegetables a crisp, sauce-led treatment. Tempura prawns, pork belly bites, prawn dumplings with herbs, lemon-pepper calamari and karaage chicken make it possible to build a seafood and meat selection without committing to a main course immediately. Garlic cheese bread and loaded fries keep the opening choices familiar for less adventurous diners.

The larger plates lean into comfort. Roast lamb, seafood chowder, pork belly, barbecue ribs and beef cheek provide several substantial options, moving between traditional roast flavours, creamy seafood and richer meat dishes. Curries form a substantial section rather than a single token choice. Butter chicken, mango chicken, Mount Everest chicken curry and Khumbu lamb curry sit beside korma, rogan josh and massaman styles, with rice and naan available to complete the order. Burgers, pasta and a children’s menu widen the group appeal further, and sticky toffee pudding provides a warm finish.
