The Oakroom Menu

The Oakroom occupies part of Victoria Park Market on Drake Street, using a former stable as the backdrop for a contemporary bar and eatery. Historic fabric gives the room character, but the food offer is broad and current enough to make it a dining destination in its own right. Tables can choose a complete main, combine snacks over drinks or settle into pizza, while live music, wine dinners and other events add another layer to the venue's social role.

Thin-crust pizza is one of the menu's most flexible sections. Tandoori chicken comes with pickled red onion, chaat masala, yoghurt and pappadam, while chorizo and jalapeno take a sharper, hotter route. Tomato, basil and ricotta provide a simpler combination, bacon is matched with pickled pineapple, and the vegetarian choices include mushrooms with ricotta or blue cheese with caramelised onion, spinach and olives. The hand-rolled bases can also be prepared with a gluten-free alternative.

The smaller plates carry enough weight to share or build into a meal. Roasted pork belly bites come with barbecue sauce, crisp chicken is paired with lemon and slaw, and calamari has garlic mayonnaise. Cauliflower pakora with tamarind and yoghurt sauce and tandoori chicken bites add spice-led options. Mains then shift toward comfort: minute steak over mash with house gravy, pan-fried fish with fries and slaw, grilled chicken on sage-and-onion stuffing, and braised beef cheek with roasted polenta.

A fresh garden salad, the changing pie and a grilled chicken-and-bacon sandwich give the main-course list less formal alternatives. Dessert remains concise, centred on a rotating selection of sorbets and ice creams plus cake of the day. Behind the bar, beer, wine, spirits and house cocktails make it possible to match the style of the visit, whether that means a drink with pizza, a fuller dinner, or food around one of The Oakroom's programmed evenings.
