Fidelio Café & Wine Bar occupies the old Blenheim Railway Station, where the 1912 booking hall gives a new venue an unusually grounded sense of place. Opened in March 2026, it moves through two moods: coffee and cabinet food keep the room relaxed during the day, then wine flights, tapas and bottles come forward as the afternoon develops. The historic booking hall now works as the café, bottle shop and tasting space, making the station setting part of the experience rather than a decorative theme.
The wine program is built around an intriguing gap in Marlborough tourism. Many small growers make distinctive bottles without running cellar doors of their own, so sommelier Neil Kapadia brings a selection of those labels into town. Guests can work through a self-guided flight with tasting notes, join a hosted tasting, or simply order a glass before choosing a bottle. That structure welcomes the curious as readily as the confident, with the emphasis on discovering producers rather than navigating a conventional wall of famous names.
Food is designed to sit naturally beside that tasting format. Havelock mussel croquettes arrive with aioli, while hand-cut wild-venison Makikihi fries add smoked yolk, capers and rye crisp. Spiced Cajun chicken bites, baked brie with mānuka honey and thyme, and a generous cheese fondue make easy sharing choices. Larger groups can turn to cheese or charcuterie boards, and the kitchen rounds them out with seasonal fruit, chutney, bread, pâté, cold cuts and olives rather than treating the boards as an afterthought.
Five 12-inch pizzas give the menu enough weight for a casual meal. Margherita and pepperoni cover familiar ground, while a mushroom version uses truffle oil, Cajun chicken brings jalapeño and onion, and prosciutto keeps the topping combination direct. Coffee remains part of the venue's identity throughout the day, and the kitchen asks diners to raise allergies or dietary needs when ordering. Fidelio works equally well as a first look at Marlborough wine, an easy shared lunch or an unhurried stop beside the station platform.
