Brazilian Kitchen is a casual Saint Asaph Street restaurant built for both sitting down and taking a meal away. Its menu is direct and generous, organising Brazilian comfort food into snacks, rice meals, executive plates, grills, burgers and specials. That format makes the venue just as useful for a quick lunch as for a table that wants to share a few starters before moving to steak or feijoada.
The snack list introduces several recognisably Brazilian favourites. Coxinha encloses shredded chicken and cream in a savoury dough, while pastel brings minced beef and cheese inside a crisp pastry. Grilled calabresa sausage comes with onions, marinated chicken hearts are pan-fried with garlic and onion, and cassava fries offer a distinctly different side from ordinary chips. Chicken skewers and seasoned nibbles round out the smaller savoury choices.
Picanha is the clearest anchor of the main menu. One version presents a substantial rump-cap steak with mushroom sauce, rice, beans, cassava and potato salad; another turns the meat into a rice plate with beans, fries, salad, farofa and vinaigrette. Executive beef, chicken and calabresa plates keep the same satisfying lunch-friendly spirit, while rump steak and grilled beef or chicken salads offer routes that put the meat ahead of the starches.
Elsewhere, feijoada brings beans and meat together in one of the menu's most traditional complete dishes. Chicken parmigiana, beef schnitzel and a Brazilian hotdog show the kitchen's everyday, diner-friendly side, while burgers extend the choice for anyone not ordering a rice plate. Guaraná and other cold drinks fit naturally with the food, completing a restaurant that presents Brazilian flavours in an approachable central Christchurch format.
