Bar Rosa gives 274 Hardy Street a new identity while maintaining a clear line back to the restaurant that occupied it before. The same restaurateur closed Parts & Service for renovation and reopened the space in September 2025 with a modern Italian direction, retaining both the address and telephone number. The result is a dinner venue that feels like a considered reset rather than an unrelated tenant: more vibrant and Mediterranean in outlook, but still interested in charcoal cooking, good drinks and a lively shared meal.
The opening sections encourage a table to begin gradually. Oysters can be dressed with sherry-vinegar mignonette or strawberry vinegar and cucumber, while smoked green olives and wood-fired bread make easy bar snacks. More composed small plates include saffron arancini with black-onion sauce and coppa, fish crudo sharpened by citrus, caper and olive, beef carpaccio with tonnato and salsa verde, and porchetta with peppers, buffalo feta, rocket and pumpkin seeds. Pear, prosciutto and buffalo stracciatella bridge the savoury and sweet edges of the menu.
Neapolitan pizza and pasta carry the Italian core. A San Marzano Margherita keeps the formula direct, while toppings such as nduja with stracciatella, mortadella with pistachio and gorgonzola, or porcini with black truffle move into richer territory. Larger plates include pork-and-pāua ragù with squid-ink pappardelle, butternut gnocchi with brown butter and walnuts, and linguine carbonara made with house-cured guanciale. Charcoal-fired Angus sirloin with green-peppercorn red-wine sauce preserves a link to the grill-focused cooking of the former restaurant.
Sides and desserts are built to finish the meal without breaking its character. Baby gem lettuce comes with bagna cauda and crisp breadcrumbs, fries take on cacio e pepe flavours, and roasted pumpkin is matched with guanciale, hot honey and almond. Dessert might be panna cotta with blackcurrant and hazelnut praline, ricotta-filled limoncello cannoli, or an affogato layered with pistachio stracciatella and honeycomb. Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday, Bar Rosa works best as a place to pass plates, compare a few drinks and let the evening gather momentum.
