Blomquists Bakery combines a working artisan bakery with a public cafe on Cameron Road in Greerton. The business grows from the Blomquist family's long connection with baking in the Bay of Plenty, but its appeal is practical as well as historical: customers can stop for coffee and something from the cabinet, collect an order or choose food for a family meal, workplace lunch or celebration. That breadth gives the venue a clear meal function rather than limiting it to bread sales alone.
Bread remains the foundation. The bakers describe making their goods by hand from scratch, without premixes, and baking fresh each day. Sourdough cobbs and pane de casa are developed as 24-hour doughs, reflecting a slower approach than standard commercial loaves and a deliberately hands-on production process. The bakery also donates unsold baked goods at the end of the day, a practical way to preserve the fresh-daily promise while directing surplus food beyond the shop.
The savoury cabinet is substantial enough to build lunch around. Chicken and cranberry Turkish pockets offer a filled bread option, while individual pies, family pies and quiches cover both single servings and food to take home. Salads provide a lighter accompaniment or alternative, and fair-trade coffee prepared by the cafe's baristas makes the shop suitable for an eat-in pause as well as a quick collection. The mix of pastry, bread and prepared fillings keeps the meal offer closely tied to the bakery's core skills.
Sweet baking and made-to-order food extend the range further. Slices and pastries fill the everyday cabinet, while celebration cakes, platters and boxed executive lunches cater to larger occasions and workplaces. Seasonal buns appear through the online shop, and local delivery and click-and-collect give planned orders a route beyond the counter. Blomquists therefore works on several scales at once: morning bread and coffee, a complete savoury lunch, food for home, and baking designed for a shared event.
