Cafe Polo has been part of Miramar life since 2007, combining a neighbourhood welcome with food that changes through the seasons. The Rotherham Terrace cafe opens from Wednesday to Sunday for breakfast, coffee and long lunches, with weekly specials giving the kitchen room to move beyond the standing selection. Its longevity, compact schedule and hands-on approach make it feel less like an all-day chain stop and more like a place with its own weekly rhythm.
The daytime menu balances familiar brunch comforts with bolder seasoning. Ginger-crunch granola comes with spiced yoghurt and poached fruit, while nduja fried eggs bring tahini yoghurt, Aleppo seasoning and flaky bread. The Doug Green Classic builds a substantial plate from fried eggs, sausages, baked beans and hand-cut chips; its vegetarian counterpart uses scrambled eggs, halloumi, avocado and broccolini. Cheesy baked beans with pork belly and a mushroom omelette with truffle mascarpone continue that generous style.
Lighter choices are no afterthought. Tomato and avocado on sourdough gains roasted-garlic ricotta, basil and dukkah, and an avocado bagel layers braised greens, pickled cucumber and chilli cream cheese. The salmon bowl combines asparagus, lentils, egg, almonds and a herbaceous dressing, while the falafel bowl brings hummus, chargrilled vegetables and dukkah. Several dishes carry gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan alternatives, although diners with allergies should still speak directly with the team.
Baking gives the cafe another distinct strand. Fresh bagels, cakes, pastries and sweets are made in house, Saturdays feature a changing doughnut flavour, and the cabinet becomes fuller over the weekend. Celebration cakes, catering and private dining extend that work beyond the cafe tables. Monthly Sunday roasts and occasional dinner events add evening interest, so a venue known for brunch can also turn toward shared meals and special occasions when the calendar allows.
