Foxglove Bar & Kitchen occupies a former marine warehouse on Queens Wharf, where the building's heritage character meets a direct outlook across Wellington Harbour. Tables inside suit a sheltered meal, while the waterfront decks put the water and passing city traffic into the foreground. That combination gives the venue more range than a conventional dining room: it can work as a lunch stop on the wharf, a drink after work or a longer evening meal in a setting that feels connected to central Wellington without losing its own sense of place.
The smaller plates make it easy to shape a meal around the table. Oysters come natural with pink peppercorn mignonette or beer battered with tartare sauce, while Nashville fried chicken is paired with ajo blanco pickles. Grilled peri peri prawns arrive with smoked tomato sauce and charred sourdough. A local cheese selection, marinated olives, courgette with labneh and gremolata, and crisp potatoes with herb butter give mixed groups enough variety to move between seafood, meat and vegetable choices rather than committing immediately to individual mains.
Those mains balance familiar bar food with more considered restaurant dishes. The beef burger uses a wagyu patty and Foxglove's pickle sauce, and fish and chips centres on line caught fish with caper mayonnaise and salad. Smoked fish pie layers seafood with nduja and vegetables, while braised beef cheek gives the rigatoni ragu its depth. Butternut spaghetti with sun-dried tomato, hazelnuts and goat's cheese supplies a meat-free alternative. Diners wanting a straightforward steak can choose eye fillet with Bordelaise jus or sirloin with peppercorn sauce.
Drinks are a substantial part of the experience rather than an afterthought. The wine list travels through New Zealand regions and international labels, backed by tap beer, classic spirits and cocktails. Zero alcohol mixes such as a rhubarb highball mean the bar format still works for guests who are not drinking. Dessert can be as familiar as a dark chocolate brownie or as distinctive as vanilla crème brûlée with fennel ice cream and milk tart with cinnamon. With several rooms, two bars and broad outdoor areas, Foxglove also adapts naturally to celebrations and group events.
