Miracle Asian Restaurant is a fully licensed central Nelson dining room built around Chinese and Thai food for sharing. Takeaway and catering extend the kitchen beyond the tables, but the broad menu and sharing format make the Hardy Street restaurant most distinctive when several diners can compare dishes together.

The small-plate selection travels through several dumpling and snack traditions. Har gow and siu mai sit beside pan-fried pork pot stickers, pork-and-prawn dumplings, vegetarian gyoza and crisp wontons. Thai fish cakes, fresh vegetable spring rolls and roast-duck rolls widen the flavours further, while golden tiger prawns and chicken curry puffs add seafood and pastry. A mixed table can therefore begin with steamed, fried and fresh textures before choosing any main course.

Chinese mains range from Cantonese roast duck and Szechuan pork belly to sweet-and-sour pork with pineapple, orange beef with cashews and chilli chicken. Lamb appears with ginger and spring onion or in the sweeter, medium-spiced Ghengis Khan preparation, while garlic prawns and salt-and-pepper squid cover the seafood side. Fried rice, chow mein, Singapore noodles and beef ho fun give those dishes several different starches and serving formats.

Thai dishes add another set of aromatic directions: green, red and Panang curries, pad Thai, drunken noodles and basil-and-chilli stir-fry all appear alongside the house's playful duck plates. Very Angry Duck uses Thai herbs and hot chilli, whereas Happy Duck coats crisp slivers in sweet soy.
