Taco Loco Mount Albert grew from Marcelo and Roger's food truck into a permanent cantina inside a converted petrol station. Its three areas each carry a different mood: a covered, dog-friendly front with parking, a colourful interior filled with Mexican artwork and crafts, and a backyard where a children's playground shares space with relaxed outdoor seating. Mariachi and ranchera music complete a setting designed for convivial meals rather than a rushed taco stop.
The current Sunday lunch menu begins with food that is easy to pass around the table. Mayan-spiced fries come with jalapeño mayonnaise, corn chips are paired with guacamole and house salsa, and jalapeño poppers add cream cheese and chipotle mayonnaise. Chicken wings take a fruitier direction with a chipotle-pineapple glaze, while the taco section moves through chicken tinga, beef birria with consommé and battered fish with slaw and guacamole.
Larger dishes widen the picture beyond tacos. Chilaquiles layer fried corn tortillas with house salsa, fresh cheese and eggs, while fajitas arrive with grilled vegetables and a choice ranging from jackfruit to prawns. Enchiladas and crisp tacos dorados offer filled tortilla formats, and the grill covers pork belly, chicken breast and flank steak. Flan or house-made churros with chocolate or dulce de leche provide a clear finish.
The bar keeps the Mexican identity visible through cocktails, mezcal, tequila, Mexican beer and alcohol-free aguas frescas. Taco Loco also adapts the cantina for birthdays and group occasions, with taco-bar buffets, set menus and optional entertainment such as live music or lotería. Together with its hosted celebrations and catering service, those choices make the Mount Albert base useful both for a family meal and a larger fiesta.
