Dux Central brings food, craft beer and live performance together in a multi-space venue on Poplar Street. Opened in 2015 on the former Twisted Hop site, it carries forward the wider Dux brewing story while operating as a contemporary central-city gathering place. The current setup is useful for several kinds of visit: a meal can be the main event, drinks can lead into a performance, or a group can settle in for a longer evening that moves naturally between the bar and table.

The smaller dishes are designed for that sociable rhythm. Calamari and fried chicken provide crisp, savoury options, while an artichoke-and-jalapeno dip, fries and nachos are easy to share over drinks. Tacos widen the choice with fish, pork and halloumi fillings, giving seafood, meat and vegetarian diners parallel routes through the section. Ordering several plates creates a casual meal with contrasting textures, but the food retains enough substance to work as more than a token accompaniment to the beer list.

Full mains keep the gastropub side of Dux Central firmly in view. Beef cheek, mussels, Caesar salad, schnitzel, fish and chips and seafood chowder cover comforting classics as well as lighter and seafood-focused choices. Burgers add another familiar option, while pizzas range from Margherita and fungi to chorizo, buffalo chicken and smoked salmon. That spread helps mixed groups order without being locked into one narrow cuisine, and dietary markers on the menu make the relevant choices easier to identify.

Beer remains central to the venue's character. Dux pours its own brewing range alongside a wide craft and international selection, but the drinks programme also includes New Zealand wine, gin, cocktails and mocktails. Live performance gives the room energy beyond ordinary restaurant service, and the combination of several spaces, a broad menu and alcohol-free drinks makes the venue adaptable for different gatherings. Tiramisu, bread-and-butter pudding or a sundae can close the meal before the night continues elsewhere in the building.
