Bongusto Pasta Workshop & Café has brought a distinctly Roman perspective to Miramar since 2011. Owner Roberto Giorgioni draws on years in Rome's restaurant kitchens, but the result is grounded in a small Wellington neighbourhood cafe rather than a formal dining room. Guests can sit down for pasta, pizza, soup, sandwiches or dessert, then take fresh pasta and prepared dishes home, giving the workshop side of the business equal weight with the cafe.
Ravioli is the clearest Bongusto signature. The kitchen makes parcels with beef, salmon or spinach and ricotta fillings, using natural semolina flour and Sicilian sea salt without added preservatives or sugar. Ready-made sauces allow those ravioli to become a meal at home as well as in the cafe. The combination captures the workshop's philosophy: careful ingredients, familiar Italian forms and enough handcraft to make even a simple filled pasta feel specific to the maker.
Pizza follows the Roman style, with a thin base enriched by olive oil for extra flavour and crispness. Friday tray service ranges from margherita, capricciosa and pepperoni to sausage with mushroom, spinach with feta and olives, and a white pizza of potato, rosemary and truffle. Four-cheese and fully vegan versions broaden the choice, while supplì, the crisp risotto balls with a mozzarella centre, make a fitting addition to a shared order.
Daily specials keep the cafe side flexible, with pasta, soup, sandwiches, pizza and desserts changing alongside the workshop production. Fresh linguine can be matched with puttanesca or another prepared sauce, and cannelloni and heat-and-eat dishes extend the same cooking into convenient takeaway meals. Bongusto's value lies in that overlap: it is somewhere to eat, but also somewhere to collect the components of an Italian dinner made with the same market-led approach.
