Mama San Nelson brings a colourful, contemporary dining room to Collingwood Street in the city centre. The restaurant opens for dinner every day and supports dine-in, takeaway and online ordering, while full licensing and a BYO wine policy give groups flexibility around drinks. Its spacious layout and menu built for sharing suit a table of friends or family, and larger parties can move to a structured group menu when the booking requires it.
Street-vendor-style starters set an informal, communal tone. Fresh rice-paper rolls layer pork and prawns with herbs, vermicelli and crisp vegetables, while Chiang Mai pork belly comes with a Thai dipping sauce. Panang pork dumplings bring steamed wrappers together with curry sauce and kaffir lime, and Vietnamese spring rolls offer a vegetable filling. A combination platter gathers pork belly, dumplings, spring rolls and popcorn chicken into one order for several diners.
Main dishes travel across Thailand, Vietnam and neighbouring South East Asian traditions. Thai green curry and pad Thai sit beside Indonesian beef rendang, in which beef cheek is slow-cooked with coconut milk and spices. Cambodian peppercorn prawns use lemongrass, basil and green peppercorn, while Vietnamese banh xeo wraps pork and prawns into a crisp pancake served with herbs and nuoc cham. Bun Ha Noi takes another route through grilled meat, vermicelli, herbs and peanuts.
Vegetable-led dishes receive more attention than a token side. Buddha Feast combines tofu with broccoli, cabbage, mushroom, baby corn and capsicum in garlic sauce, while silken tofu is fried before meeting a crisp lemongrass sauce. Set menus make it easier for groups to sample starters, curry, noodles and wok dishes in one progression. Desserts, pickup and delivery complete the offering, allowing the restaurant's shared style to work both at a long table and at home.
