Kapadokya Kebab is a seven-day Turkish restaurant on George Street in central Palmerston North. Its menu works for several levels of appetite, from a quick roll to a full grill plate, and the dining format is substantial enough for a sit-down lunch or dinner. Kebab-shop favourites remain important, but the range of meze, skewers, salads, iskender dishes, desserts and hot drinks gives diners far more scope than a single takeaway format.
Bread, dips and small plates create an easy shared opening. Turkish bread can be matched with a chosen dip, while grilled halloumi is served with hummus, falafel and bread to make a more complete plate. Dolma and individual falafel add further options for a mixed table. These starters are useful before the grill, but they can also be combined into a lighter meal where warm bread, salty cheese, chickpeas and savoury fillings take the lead.
The core menu moves between doner meat and food cooked on the grill. Chicken and beef-and-lamb rolls keep things straightforward, while iskender meals turn those meats into a plated dish. Lamb and chicken shish bring skewered grilled pieces to the table, and the mixed grill combines lamb shish, grilled chicken and both chicken and lamb doner with rice and salad. Open-faced burgers, salad meals and meze plates provide other routes through the same set of Turkish flavours.
Kapadokya Kebab also caters for diners who want a complete restaurant meal rather than one main dish. Kids meals give families smaller combinations, and coffee, tea, sweets and cold drinks make it possible to linger after the grill plates have been cleared. Tiramisu and chocolate cake sit among the current dessert choices. For groups, the practical approach is to mix bread and dips at the centre of the table, then choose between rolls, iskender and skewers to match each diner's appetite.
