Arranged Marriage brings the food traditions of Kerala to a welcoming dining room on The Square. The Palmerston North restaurant has served this style of South Indian cooking since 2015, building on the founders' earlier Kathakali restaurant in New Plymouth. A Kerala-born chef leads a menu shaped by coconut, seafood, rice, lentils and carefully layered spices. The approach feels rooted in home cooking, while the warm room, local produce and full table service give it the polish needed for a long lunch or dinner.

Dosa is one of the clearest expressions of that southern focus. The thin fermented rice-and-lentil pancake comes with sambar plus coconut and tomato chutneys, creating crisp, soft, sour and savoury elements in the same plate. Diners can choose a classic masala filling or versions with chicken, paneer or egg, while the house special adds a more elaborate combination. Soft idli and fried lentil vada explore the same fermented-grain tradition through different textures, making this section useful for sharing before the curries arrive.

The starter list moves confidently between vegetarian, meat and seafood plates. Cauliflower 65 and Chicken 65 use crisp coatings and warm spices, paneer pepper fry adds tomato, ginger and garlic, and Kerala beef dry fry takes a slower, more concentrated route. Grilled fish and prawns are marinated with turmeric, pepper, lemon, ginger or garlic. Curries then draw on coconut, cashews and whole spices across lamb, chicken, beef and seafood, while chickpeas, lentils, vegetables and paneer give non-meat diners substantial choices of their own.

Biryani carries those flavours into a complete rice dish, with chicken, goat, beef and fish versions allowing the main ingredient to change without losing the aromatic base. Breads and rice also make it easy for a group to order several curries and compare them across the table. Traditional refreshments sit beside wine and beer, so the drinks can follow either the restaurant's Kerala identity or a familiar dinner format. Arranged Marriage is especially rewarding when a table combines dosa, a crisp starter, contrasting curries and biryani rather than settling on one isolated main.
