Good Thai Restaurant brings a broad Thai menu to its licensed, BYO dining room on Kendal Avenue in Burnside, with takeaway available for a meal at home. The kitchen is led by Phirom Bunphun, a chef from Sukhothai with more than three decades of experience, and that connection gives the restaurant a natural point of emphasis. More than forty dishes move between familiar curries and stir-fries and the noodle soups associated with the chef's home region, so the choice feels considerably wider than a short neighbourhood takeaway list.
The starter selection makes it easy to build a shared opening course. Vegetable curry puffs wrap potato and pumpkin in crisp pastry, while Thai fish cakes bring chilli paste and herbs into a springy, savoury bite. Chicken satay comes with the kitchen's peanut sauce, and the combination platter gathers spring rolls, curry puffs, satay skewers and pork spare ribs for a table that wants a little of everything. Grilled prawns, crispy squid and Thai-style chicken wings provide further routes into the meal before rice or noodles arrive.
Noodles show the menu at its most distinctive. The Sukhothai noodle soup balances spicy and sour notes, joining stewed beef and pork soups, a seafood yen ta fo and a dry noodle preparation among the dedicated soup choices. Pad Thai offers a familiar rice-noodle format, whereas drunken noodles turn to a bolder stir-fried style. Fried rice and a range of protein choices make this part of the menu flexible for a solo lunch as well as a mixed table at dinner.
Curries and chef specials give regular diners plenty to explore beyond the noodle bowls. Panang combines coconut milk with kaffir lime leaf, beans, capsicum and crushed peanut, while massaman supplies a gentler, aromatic alternative. A lamb shank cooked in panang curry makes the format more substantial, and seafood appears in dishes such as tamarind prawns, seafood sukiyaki and whole fish sharpened with lime and chilli. Together with basil stir-fries and vegetable or tofu options, those dishes allow a table to vary heat, texture and richness across several plates.
