Industry Cafe is a family-run Invercargill cafe founded in 2018 by chef Mark Heffer and his sister Kerry. Its Arena Avenue home combines a bright, spacious dining room with quieter corners, private dining and a sunny courtyard, making it suitable for a solo coffee or a longer meal with company. Local sourcing and house-made condiments give the food a clear point of view without making the atmosphere feel formal.

Breakfast stretches well beyond a basic eggs-and-toast offering. Toasted nut-and-seed muesli comes with yoghurt, berry compote, lemon curd and coconut, while eggs Benedict uses crisp potato rosti as its base. A substantial breakfast bun stacks bacon, an Angus beef patty, hash brown, cheddar, halloumi and egg, and beetroot fritters offer a meat-free alternative with grilled halloumi. Blueberry and lemon French toast provides a sweeter route.

Lunch brings together Southland produce and playful cafe food. Battered blue cod is served with fries, slaw, preserved-lemon tartare and house-made tomato sauce, while spicy Korean chicken tacos arrive in grilled corn tortillas. Poutine can be topped with buttermilk fried chicken, and the cafe's burger changes flavour regularly. A chilli-jam and brie bacon buttie, omelettes and a chicken Caesar bagel add further substantial choices.

Handcrafted coffee remains central throughout the day, and a dedicated children's menu offers smaller breakfasts, waffles, sliders and chicken bagels. Industry also shifts easily into event mode: private functions can use tailored buffet, canape or burger packages, while a mobile food trailer takes the cooking off site. That versatility makes the cafe part daytime dining room, part gathering space and part Southland catering kitchen.
