Garrison Public House gives Sylvia Lane a full-scale pub among Sylvia Park's busy cluster of restaurants and cafes. It is operated as a tavern rather than a token mall bar, with a substantial menu, a drinks-led social rhythm and enough variety to cover lunch, dinner or a casual stop after shopping. The location makes it convenient, but the identity is that of a local public house: familiar food, broad tableside appeal and recurring reasons to gather. Star Group's current pub-menu programme keeps it connected to a wider family of North Island venues while leaving room for its Mount Wellington setting.
Small plates make an easy starting point. Macaroni-and-three-cheese sticks come with tomato sauce and parmesan, chilli-garlic prawns are served with parsley butter and focaccia, and pork-belly bites take a Korean barbecue glaze with chilli and sesame. Pasta then moves between a vegetable-led winter spaghetti with slow-roasted tomato, spinach, olives, herbs and feta; venison bolognese with fried chickpeas and parmesan; and a creamy chicken-and-bacon carbonara. Those dishes give the menu more depth than a standard snack list and make it possible to eat lightly without defaulting to fries.
The handheld and pizza sections lean into the pub's more playful side. A brisket cheeseburger keeps the structure classic with American cheese, pickles and special sauce, while The Cluckerson uses crisp chicken, chipotle mayonnaise and ranch. The Hallouminati pairs grilled halloumi with a house-made vegan patty and all the burger trimmings. Pizzas move from Buffalo Chicken with ranch to pepperoni sharpened by jalapeños and hot honey. The BBQ Meat version stacks beef, pork belly and pepperoni over mozzarella with a smoky IPA barbecue sauce, landing firmly in shareable, beer-friendly territory.
Garrison also works as a group venue rather than only a place for an individual meal.
