Moretons Bar & Restaurant sits opposite the water in St Heliers, pairing a lively neighbourhood bar with a full bistro kitchen and wide views towards Rangitoto. The venue has been part of the eastern bays for more than 15 years, and its everyday appeal is broad: lunch, dinner, New Zealand beer and dog-friendly areas inside and out all share the same beachfront address.

Small plates give the menu a contemporary pub character without becoming predictable. Pork belly is matched with kimchi and gochujang barbecue sauce, beef tartare comes with fresh yolk and truffle mayonnaise, and garlic-chorizo prawns arrive with grilled roti, lime and coriander. Those dishes work naturally with drinks, but they also offer enough contrast to build the opening stage of a longer meal.

The main courses keep familiar formats while adding detail. A smashed beef burger layers a wagyu patty with barbecue brisket, smoked cheddar, pickles and mustard, while chicken schnitzel is lifted by apple and rocket slaw with pickled-lemon dressing. A teriyaki salmon bowl takes a lighter direction through carrot, wakame, cucumber, cabbage, radish and miso mayonnaise.

Families have a separate menu spanning cheeseburger, fish and chips, grilled chicken, macaroni bites, pizza and a fried-chicken waffle, followed by straightforward treats such as sundae, chocolate mousse or s'mores waffle. Groups can choose the main dining room, a private room or a covered terrace facing the beach, giving Moretons the flexibility to move from an ordinary meal to a small celebration without changing venue.
