Milk and Honey Cafe is tucked into Level 1 of the Rankine Brown Building on Wellington's Kelburn campus. Despite the university setting, it operates as a full cafe with reservations and online ordering rather than a closed internal service. The menu is built for the rhythm of the day, moving from cooked breakfasts and coffee to sandwiches, burgers, pasta and lighter lunch plates that can suit a quick stop or a seated meal.
Breakfast ranges from generous combinations to more focused plates. The big breakfast brings together eggs, bacon, chorizo, potatoes, tomato, mushrooms and toast, while one omelette folds in smoked salmon, capers and cream cheese. Smashed avocado can come with eggs, feta and tomato, and the sweeter side is represented by Belgian waffles. A low-carb plate replaces toast with avocado, tomato, mushrooms, bacon and eggs.
Potato rosti forms a flexible centrepiece elsewhere on the menu. It can be ordered as a vegan stack or paired with smoked salmon and hollandaise, beetroot hummus and feta, or bacon and hollandaise. Lunch then stretches from halloumi, beef-and-bacon and crumbed-chicken burgers to prawn spaghetti, pesto gnocchi, crispy calamari salad and soup, giving the kitchen more breadth than a simple campus coffee counter.
Smaller choices remain useful when time is short. Made-to-order sandwiches include ham with cheese and pickle, egg mayonnaise, ham with English mustard, and ham with crushed egg. The drinks list covers black and milk-based coffee, leaf tea, organic ginger beer and juices, mineral water and house-mixed sodas. Together, that range allows the cafe to handle everything from a morning coffee to a complete lunch without losing its easygoing everyday role.
