The Great Chilli Indian Restaurant brings an unusually broad all-day menu to Bloomfield Terrace in central Lower Hutt. The restaurant serves from lunch until late, with pickup and delivery extending the kitchen beyond the dining room. Its selection does not stop at familiar curry-house standards: tandoor cooking, biryani, South Indian dishes, Bombay Indo-Chinese combinations and Indian street food all sit within the same offering.
The starter list is a useful guide to that breadth. Vegetarian choices move from samosas and onion bhaji to aloo-paneer tikki, paneer pakora, hara bhara kabab, tandoori mushrooms and garlicky broccoli cooked in the tandoor. Chicken appears in classic, pickled-spice, creamy cashew and garlic tikka marinades, while lamb seekh kebab, Amritsari fish in chickpea-flour batter and tandoori prawns widen the selection for a shared opening round.
Curries cover both familiar and less predictable routes. Indian-style and milder Kiwi-style butter chicken sit beside tikka masala, korma, madras, rogan josh, saagwala and bhuna, with paneer choices carrying many vegetarian meals. Handi goat curry offers another slow-cooked direction, and goat, chicken and lamb biryanis make rice the focus rather than an accompaniment. Naan, rumali roti and other breads are available to build out the table.
A separate Bombay Indo-Chinese section introduces noodles, Schezwan fried rice, chilli preparations and Manchurian dishes, providing a sharper, wok-cooked contrast to the gravies and tandoor plates. South Indian and street-food sections add still more ways to order, while gulab jamun and faluda kulfi bring two very different finishes: one warm and syrupy, the other cool, creamy and layered. The result is a menu that rewards exploring beyond a single main course.
