Café Berlin is both a Strowan café and a compact German delicatessen, allowing visitors to taste the products that also fill its retail shelves. The Normans Road venue draws on German butchery, Central European bread and a wider selection of continental cheese and pantry goods, then turns those ingredients into straightforward café meals. Fresh coffee, pretzels and sourdough make a brief stop easy, while platters and hot sausage dishes provide a more substantial lunch.
Bread and cold cuts form one route through the menu. Pretzels can be kept simple with butter or filled with salami, ham, Black Forest ham and cheese, and the same fillings are available in white or multigrain rolls. Fleischsalat comes with bread, while liver pâté adds pickles. The Brotzeit platter gathers assorted cold cuts, dried meat, cheese and bread, and the prosciutto platter broadens the cured-meat selection with pickles and olives.
Hot dishes focus on recognisable German café classics. Bulette meatballs can be served in a bread roll with mustard and pickles or beside Berlin potato salad. Leberkäse follows a similar choice, adding sauerkraut when ordered in a roll. Currywurst uses the café's own curry sauce, bratwurst comes with sauerkraut in bread, and Bavarian Weißwurst is matched with pretzel and sweet mustard. Frankfurters with potato salad complete the sausage-led selection.
The delicatessen explains why the café can offer such a concentrated taste of Germany. Sausages and smallgoods made to traditional recipes sit beside Dutch, French, Spanish and Italian cheeses, while imported mustards, dumplings and pickles make it possible to recreate parts of the meal at home. German sourdough, rolls and pretzels link the shop and café most clearly. A visitor can eat a composed platter with coffee, then leave with the bread, cheese or condiments that gave it character.
