Hong's Korean Restaurant is a recent addition to the Hurstmere Road dining strip, trading from Shop 5 in the arcade that connects toward Potters Park. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner every day and supports both pickup and delivery. Its menu combines Korean staples with Korean-Chinese noodle dishes, rice meals and crisp snacks, giving the Takapuna venue a character that is more varied than a narrowly focused barbecue or fried-chicken shop.
Black-bean noodles and spicy seafood noodle soup form the menu's central pairing. Jjajangmyeon offers the darker, savoury sauce, while jjamppong brings seafood and heat in broth. Half-and-half combinations let one diner compare either noodle with vegetable fried rice or sweet-and-sour pork, and larger sharing sets repeat those combinations for the table. That structure is a practical way to explore Korean-Chinese favourites without committing the whole meal to a single bowl.
Traditional Korean mains add a different kind of comfort. Galbitang is built around beef ribs and broth, ttukbaegi bulgogi serves beef and glass noodles in a hot stone pot, and bulgogi and spicy stir-fried pork bring grilled or wok-cooked meat to the table. Japchae, kimchi fried rice, tteokgalbi and seafood kimchi pancake extend the range across noodles, rice, patties and savoury pancake, creating several distinct routes through lunch or dinner.
The menu also makes room for crisp textures and casual sharing. A house-made oversized pork katsu, shrimp tempura, fried pork-and-vegetable dumplings and chilli seaweed rolls can sit around the larger noodle and rice dishes. Drinks such as Korean milk soda, melon milk and muscat-flavoured soda reinforce the restaurant's contemporary cafe-like side. Hong's works best when diners mix those snacks with one of the noodle combinations or a sharing set rather than treating every item as a separate main.
