The Dumpling Company The Terrace is the central-city restaurant of a Wellington business established in 2016 around handmade dumplings. It has since expanded into a much wider Asian-inspired dining room, with split lunch and dinner service and later finishes on Friday and Saturday. Pickup and delivery support quick weekday meals, but hot pot, barbecue and group tables also give the venue a more communal identity than its original dumpling-shop name might suggest.

Dumplings remain the natural starting point, whether ordered on their own or folded into noodle soup. The current menu also highlights oil-splashed yo po mian, spicy Sichuan dan dan noodles, char koay teow and a pork-belly rice bowl. Combination formats are useful for diners who want more than one texture in a single order: steamed or fried parcels can sit beside noodles, rice dishes and bao without every person at the table choosing the same category.

At dinner, the restaurant broadens into food designed to be cooked or shared together. Korean barbecue centres the table on sizzling meats, while hot pot uses rich broths as the base for a slower, conversational meal. Yum cha and grilled skewers add another way to build a spread from smaller portions. These sections make the venue particularly effective for family catch-ups, work dinners and celebrations, all occasions the restaurant actively accommodates with tables for small and large groups.

Drinks and sweets receive more attention than a simple afterthought. Milk tea, refreshing cold drinks, yoghurt and ice-jelly desserts can follow the savoury dishes or become a short visit of their own. The menu's movement from handmade dumplings to noodles, rice, barbecue and hot pot reflects the restaurant's stated approach: Chinese classics remain important, but Malaysian, Korean and other Asian influences are allowed to sit alongside them rather than being forced into one narrow definition.
