Lamb chops with green chutney and fries at V.T. Station Newmarket

V.T. Station turns Mumbai's Victoria Terminus into the organising idea for a Newmarket dining room. Railway references are woven through the experience rather than added as a single decorative gesture: serving pieces come from Hyderabad, the cutlery has a Victorian influence, handmade New Zealand plates sit against canteen-style finishes, and whistles animate the bar. The result connects Indian transport history with contemporary Auckland hospitality. It is an energetic setting for lunch or dinner, but the considered tableware and layered design also give the restaurant enough polish for a longer occasion.

The small dishes travel through Mumbai street food and wider regional references. Vada pav and pav bhaaji bring familiar bread-based snacks to the table, while paneer maska and paneer or goat kulcha offer richer choices. Chilli chicken supplies heat, and peppery mutton with paratha is made for tearing, scooping and sharing. This section is well suited to a group because it encourages several contrasting plates before the larger dishes arrive. It also makes the menu approachable for diners who would rather explore in stages than commit immediately to one curry each.

Charcoal cooking gives the main meal another direction. Tandoori chicken, creamy chicken malai kebab, lamb chops and coconut-spiced kingfish each respond differently to the grill. Beyond that, dum-style lamb biryani and breads from the tandoor can anchor a table of curries including butter chicken, goat karahi, chicken Changezi, paneer pasanda, dal makhani and vegetable kofta. The range moves confidently between meat, seafood and vegetarian cooking, allowing a shared feast to balance smoky skewers, slow-cooked sauces, rice and bread without relying on one dominant flavour profile.

Drinks are integrated into the restaurant's character through signature cocktails as well as wine and beer. Dedicated allergy menus make it easier to navigate the breadth of the food, while a changing programme of special menu formats gives regular diners reasons to see the space used differently. Not every event-style offering runs every day, but together they show a restaurant interested in more than a fixed dinner sequence. With daily lunch and dinner service, V.T. Station can work as an expressive casual meal, a drinks-led gathering or a full shared Indian banquet.
