Mr. Brightside Rooftop Bar occupies Level 4 of Christchurch's Public Trust Building, turning a restored central-city landmark into an adult casual-dining venue above Oxford Terrace. A retractable roof and broad outlook take in the Avon River, Cathedral Square, the Port Hills and the Alps, while full table service keeps the experience grounded at the table. Opened in 2020, it is shaped for the point where lunch or dinner can continue into cocktails and a livelier evening.
Food is arranged around sharing rather than a conventional sequence of individual courses. The current menu describes its cooking as Peruvian-inspired and Pacific-influenced, using bright chilli, citrus, herbs and savoury sauces across small and larger plates. Corn tostadas come with chilli-lime chicken, mushroom and eggplant or coconut prawn, while market-fish crudo, salmon tiradito, miso-grilled prawns and New Zealand oysters give seafood a prominent place.
Meat dishes carry the same bold seasoning. Wagyu tataki is paired with sesame, chilli, mint, ponzu and ginger; lamb chops use a soy-garlic glaze, and panko fried chicken is sharpened with spicy salsa verde. Vegetable choices are developed with equal attention, from guacamole and baked asparagus with macadamia pesto to a spiced cauliflower salad and smoky Peruvian corn ribs. Clear dietary markers make it easier to compose a shared spread for varied preferences.
Cocktails are part of the venue's identity rather than an afterthought, with original combinations built from fruit, herbs, spice and spirits alongside classics on request. A dedicated rooftop lunch format combines a sequence of favourite share plates with a choice of cocktails, while ordinary bookings cover lunch, afternoon drinks, nibbles and dinner. That flexibility suits a sunny daytime table, an early meal or a longer gathering that makes the most of the skyline after dark.
