Lola Stays is a family-owned neighbourhood cafe with Oriental Bay's water directly across the road. The setting balances beachside ease with a more playful city style: flamingo wallpaper and contemporary art animate the interior, while a broad outdoor area opens toward the passing life of Oriental Parade. That position makes the cafe as useful for a sunny pavement brunch as for a sheltered breakfast when Wellington's weather turns.

The breakfast menu handles both familiar cafe staples and more colourful starts. Porridge, house granola and eggs on toast sit beside Benedict, waffles and a large cooked breakfast. Huevos rancheros layers chilli beans, cheese, jalapeño salsa, fried eggs, avocado and sour cream over a toasted tortilla. Halloumi appears in a warm bruschetta, while avocado toast adds dukkah, chilli jam, basil oil and balsamic glaze.

Brunch moves beyond breakfast without losing the cafe's relaxed character. Bao buns can be filled with sticky pork or fried chicken, and a crisp chicken burger brings sriracha honey, bacon, cheese and slaw. An open steak sandwich uses sirloin, chimichurri and crisp kumara; Thai beef and smoked salmon salads provide fresher alternatives. Fish and chips and chicken karaage complete a selection that can carry lunch well beyond eggs and toast.

A composed vegan brunch combines tofu, vegetables, avocado, rosti, toast and chilli beans, while many other dishes note gluten-free or dairy-free adaptations.
